Today’s poll is a simple one – should Pres. Obama nominate, and should the U.S. Senate vote this year, on a nominee to replace the late Justice Scalia? (The nominee might not win confirmation; this question is simply whether there should be a nominee and a vote in 2016.)
The poll’s above, and comments are available below. On this website, commenters remarks are their own, and do not reflect the opinions of this site or its publisher. I would ask Republicans and Democrats, however, to refrain from too much major-party invective. (There’s a cure for that, fortunately, and it can be found online.)
If you are an Originalist, as was Scalia, then the Constitution mandates a nomination, hearing and approval or rejection NOW. And, actually, that IS what the Constitution orders. Do it. ‘Nuff said.
I don’t think there has to be a nominee, but there should be.
I feel sorry for any nominee. It’s a lot of examination they have to go under. Worse each time on both sides.
Less gets done each year, it seems. Someone who gets nominated would have to be prepared for no action. Worth trying, though, if the person knows the odds.
Maybe it’s better to wait just to avoid the spectacle. Or, to be the second person to go, when people know that someone has to get appointed.
I would try to fill it.
