Good morning.

Friday in Whitewater will see a mix of clouds and sun with a high of 58. Sunrise is 7:26 and sunset is 5:49 for 10 hours 23 minutes of daylight. The moon is a waning gibbous with 75.4 percent of its visible disk illuminated.
On this day in 1941, President Roosevelt approves $1 billion in Lend-Lease aid to the Allied nations (one of many approvals).

There are two candidates for governor of this state, well known to all its residents. There is, however, only one candidate for lieutenant governor who has the undoubted and deserved support of her gubernatorial running mate and party:
The Wisconsin gubernatorial candidates have taken opposite approaches to campaigning with their running mates, using the lieutenant governor picks in ways to strengthen their reach to voters, or lack thereof.
Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley, the Democratic governor candidate, has described his running mate, Secretary of State Sarah Godlewski, as his “future work bestie” and an “integral” part of his campaign. Godlewski’s name is also planted underneath Crowley’s name on campaign yard signs, merchandise and his official website.
[…]
But Republican governor candidate Congressman Tom Tiffany’s campaign yard signs, merchandise and website fail to feature the name of his running mate, David Varnam. Varnam upset Will Martin in the August Republican lieutenant governor primary despite Martin [boasting] the state party endorsement.
Varnam, the former Lancaster mayor and member of the Common Council who lost in the 2022 Republican primary for lieutenant governor, has been at 14 of the 88 events Tiffany has held from Aug.
[…]Crowley, though, has done the opposite of keeping Godlewski in the shadows. A Crowley spokesman said that since Aug. 12, Crowley and Godlewski have hosted and appeared together at “over 30 events,” and Godlewski has hosted Crowley events on his behalf.
As of Oct. 29, Crowley and Godlewski are in the midst of a 10-day, 40-stop bus tour together, stretching roughly 3,000 miles across the state.
See Colby Lamb, Crowley, Tiffany diverge on how they deploy their running mates, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, October 29, 2026.
If, however improbably, Tom Tiffany is elected governor, he’ll place Varnam at an empty table with a folding chair in one of the Capitol building’s darkest alcoves.

If a running mate doesn’t have a prime spot now, he or she never will. Anything else is something less, a waste of a candidacy and a harbinger of weak and dysfunctional leadership.
David Crowley and Sarah Godlewski are the better candidates, and Crowley-Godlewski is the better team for Wisconsin.
