During the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in a region where journalists are targeted and fleeing the country, we have come to rely on social media to understand what’s happening on the ground in real time. Meanwhile, old videos have been posted on TikTok to look like they’re from the current conflict. Photos have been staged to mimic attacks on civilians. And the Russian government is spreading lies about who’s to blame for the war.
